‘Twelve Years A Slave’ Trailer

Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o is appearing opposite film heavyweights Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Michael Fassbender, Adepero Oduye, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt and Paul Giamatti amongst others in Steve McQueen’s Twelve Years A Slave released later this year.You can read more about Lupita in the feature profile Ciné Kenya did of her here.

The film is based on a true story in pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender) as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity.
